A day after he brought superstar Salman Khan to inaugurate the ongoing Khasdar Sanskrutik Mahotsav in Nagpur, Union Transport minister Nitin Gadkari unveiled Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue at Shivaji Nagar garden, Nagpur, in the morning on January 7.
The unveiling was done in the presence of Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation Babanrao Lonikar, MLAs Sudhakar Deshmukh and Dr Milind Mane, Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Sancheti, MLC Anil sole, Ruling Party Leader at NMC Sandip Joshi, NMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Jadhav, Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, Nagpur RSS chief Rajesh Loya and corporators Sunil Hiranwar, Ujjwala Sharma and Sanjay Bangale. Also present at the event were Prabhakarrao Mundle, Nikhil Mundle, Sunil Raisoni, Jaiprakash Gupta, among other guests.
Giving a perfect flavour to the event were quite a few ladies who were dressed in proper Maharashtrian attire to welcome the guests. It was almost like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was being given a grand traditional welcome when Nagpur’s Dhol Tasha Pathak Shiv Mudra gave a fantastic performance.
Post the unveiling of the statue, Gadkari took to the stage to speak about the legacy of the great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Gadkari said, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was not only a great warrior and an ideal king but also an ideal father who stood tall for his people in the hardest and worst of situations.” Gadkari thereafter spoke about his wish to see Nagpur as a brimming cultural hub in Maharashtra and also about the government’s plans and ideas to achieve the same.
