An orthopedic senior resident doctor – Rohan Mhamunkar (35) – at the Dhule Government Hospital was ruthlessly beaten on March 12, 2017 by relatives of a patient alleging delay in the treatment.

The CCTV footage uploaded by another doctor Shivaji Marella shows a mob of 15-20 men beating Dr Mhamukar mercilessly even after the doctor got unconscious on the bed. As per reports, Dr Mhamunkar had asked the relatives of the patient to shift the patient to some other hospital as there was an unavailability of neurosurgeon on duty on Sunday evening. The patient was brought to the government hospital with an injury on his head and the relatives from the start were quiet annoyed over alleged medical negligence of the doctor.

Reports also state that, the doctor suffered multiple injuries to his abdomen, chest and head. He has also suffered a major eye injury and has been currently admitted in the ICU.

This incident sparked an outrage among the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) and to protest, they wore black ribbons on duty and even conducted candlelight observances. The resident doctors have also planned a state wide strike tomorrow.
