Amid the ruckus created by the opposition in the assembly today (as they demanded resignation of Maharashtra cabinet minister Mahadev Jankar), Nagpur North MLA Dr Milind Mane raised a pertinent issue of teachers getting stigmatised because of false complaints against them by the students in medical colleges.
Later, in a conversation with Nation Next, Mane said, “As a doctor, I can empathise with the faculties of medical colleges, who have to go through a lot of humiliation because of the false complaints against them. I know of quite a few senior and reputed doctors, who were socially stigmatised and subjected to media trials because of such false complaints. This causes irreversible damage to their social reputation. While students’ issues get addressed, it becomes difficult for the teachers to voice their concerns as they are the employees of administration. Hence, I thought of raising their issues in the assembly. I wished to draw the attention of the Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan and the Health Minister to the teachers’ concerns. But I’m appalled with the way opposition leaders created ruckus in the assembly when I put this question of mine there. The opposition members made a mockery of democracy today.”
