Senior Politician and MLA (Sangole, Solapur district) Ganpatrao Deshmukh on Thursday during the Maharashtra Legislature winter session 2016 raised the issue of water shortage problems in Solapur district owing to improper rains.

In a media briefing, Deshmukh later said, “Last year and this year, there have been no proper rains. Las year, the government had declared 1050 villages in Solapur district to be drought hit. And this year, because there have been no rains, in many town and villages, importantly in Sangole taluka, the rivers, drains, ponds, and wells have dried up. From January onwards, there is going to be an acute shortage of drinking water as well. In a situation like this, to solve the problem the state government should release water from different major water bodies to the lakes and other water bodies. To request this, all the MLAs of the Solapur were present today. NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil informed the house about all this and presented the proposal to release the water from rivers. The Honourable Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured us that with the help of Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde planning for this will be done.”
