Crime branch arrested five Nagpurians who have been accused of being involved in human trafficking across countries like Europe and North America. The international racket, for which an advocate from Nagpur has also been arrested, has 11 names of accused so far. The five persons arrested are Balveer Singh Multani, Ajit Singh Multani, Rulda Singh Gujjar, Manjeet Ghotra and Shiv Kumar Rathod.

Better known as ‘kabootarbaazi,’  the racket is not just limited to Maharashtra but also to states like Haryana, Punjab and Delhi. As per a report in The Times of India, the racket is supposed to have trafficked around 60 persons to UK between 2007 and 2015. The The Times of India also reported that the racketeers sent illegal immigrants to countries like Italy, German, Canada, etc.

According to sources, it has been said that a woman advocate looks after the entire racket in Canada, who also extends legal help if required during immigration. A source from Nagpur was of the view that the racketeers began trafficking the early 2000, for which an agent from Delhi even helped them by trafficking innocent people abroad with fake visas and passports.

The British High Commission’s Immigration Enforcement International, who also alerted Nagpur police’s crime branch, exposed the racket. Ashwini Patil, who’s the ACP (crime), said that the remaining accused have to be arrested on top priority. A senior officer even said that the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Intelligence Bureau might intervene in the case.
