Ilayaraja wins Padma Vibhushan, MS Dhoni and Pankaj Advani win Padma Bhushan

Noted Indian music composer Ilayaraja was on Thursday conferred upon with Padma Vibhushan – India’s second-highest civilian award – by the Government of India. Also among the awardees were cricketer and former India captain Mahendra Singh Shoni and World Champion cueist Pankaj Advani, who were conferred upon with Padma Bhushan  – India’s third-highest civilian award.

Apart from Dhoni and Advani, some other sportspersons were also recognised for their work. 2017 World Weightlifting Champion (48 Kg category) Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Asian Games gold medalist tennis player Somdev Devvarman, shuttler Kidambi Srikanth and India’s first paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar were conferred upon with Padma Shri – India’s fourth-highest civilian award.
