Jet Airways air hostess trying to smuggle half a million dollars arrested by DRI

A Jet Airways air hostess, who was allegedly trying to smuggle around half a million dollars, was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

A 25-year-old Jet Airways air hostess, who was allegedly trying to smuggle around half a million dollars, from New Delhi to Hong Kong on Monday was caught and arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).  The air hostess was trying to smuggle $4,80,200 (more than Rs 3 crore) carefully wrapped in an aluminum foil.

As per reports, the DRI, on Tuesday, said that the woman was part of a big hawala syndicate and her handler Amit Malhotra from New Delhi has been arrested. The newspaper, also quoted a DRI official saying, “Malhotra would collect money from some bullion dealers in Delhi and send it via some air hostess to select foreign destinations. The money was being used for purchasing gold abroad. The gold would then be sent to India illegally.” The official further said, “Malhotra has been illegally smuggling forex for the past over one year. There are some other crew members involved in the case. We are also trying to find out the details of bullion dealers involved in this syndicate.”
