It’s not every day that you see a son of a leading industrialist not joining the family business and entering an unchartered territory. Indian business tycoon Kumar Mangalam Birla’s son Aryaman Birla has chosen to do just that. Giving away the readily available luxuries at his disposal, Aryaman decided to chase his dream and play cricket and it seems that his decision is paying off.
The left-handed batsman, who made his first-class debut playing for Madhya Pradesh in Ranji Trophy 2017-18, was acquired by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 30 lakh at the IPL auction on Sunday. The youngster will now play alongside cricketers like Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane, Jaydev Unadkat and Ben Stokes.
Speaking of his decision to play cricket, Aryaman in an interview with Deccan Chronicle last year, said, “I’ve played cricket my entire life. I was eight, maybe nine-years-old when I started playing. I played a lot of sports when I was very little, but cricket was the one that stood out for me. There was no definite moment when I realised I wanted to pursue it as my career; it was a natural progression from it being a hobby to now playing it professionally.”
A big welcome to our next Royal. 💥#PadhaaroSa Aryaman Vikram Birla! ⚡
We look forward to some great cricket in 2018!
