→ A convicted murderer, who was serving life imprisonment at Nagpur Central Jail, escaped from the open jail today, (Monday, February 27), by cheating on the prison guards.

→ The convict, who is identified as Shamal Dinesh Siswas (40), is the resident of Puranda village (West Bengal). He was convicted by the Mumbai Court on March 17, 2016, for murder and was charged in a case 953/2005 under section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

→ The Mumbai Court had sentenced him of life imprisonment and was lodged at Kolhapur prison then. Later, due to his good behaviour, he was transferred to Nagpur open prison on January 31, 2016.

→ Today, around 1 pm, the convict Shamal Siswas escaped from the jail by dodging the prison guards. However, Nagpur city police have beefed up the security everywhere to locate the culprit.

→ When Nation Next asked Dhantoli PI Rajan Mane about the incident, he said, “The convict was working in the jail and even had his lunch at around 11:30 am today. But, during the reporting time (1:30 pm), he couldn’t be seen in the prison. In fact, it’s surprising, as he would work in a disciplined manner on a daily basis in the open jail without disturbing anybody. No relatives would come to meet him. So far, he hadn’t even taken an off from his work. But, we ensure you that Nagpur Police will soon catch him.”

→ As per the PI, the convict, if arrested, would be charged under the Section 224 of IPC.
