On the occasion of International Women’s Day, NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) in association with Rotary Club of Nagpur and city NGO – Swacch Nagpur organised an event at Mansi Girls Hostel to spread awareness about ‘Proper sanitary napkin disposal.’
People present at the event included NMC Corporator Pragati Patil, Asha Pathan (CM’s officer on special duty), BS Arora (Super Hygiene, NGO), Santosh Papinwar (Owner, Mansi Girls Hostel), Vijay Limiye (Eco-Friendly Living Foundation, NGO), Nakul Agrawal (Renovatio, NGO), Anu Chhabrani and Shefali Dudhbade (both from Swacch Nagpur).
While addressing people present, NMC Corporator Pragati Patil spoke about the importance of disposing menstruation waste i.e. used pads. She also informed everybody that this project is being started from Nagpur. Talking about the project, Patil said, “Now there is no need to flush your sanitary pads or dump it in the backyard of your house. Doing so results in lethal diseases and many more problems like blockage of drains, land/water pollution and foul smell. NMC and Swacch Nagpur have formulated this project wherein yellow bins will be placed in the hostels, colleges and other places at just Rs 30 per month.” Patil ended her speech by pointing towards a board which carried the slogan of the project – ‘Don’t worry about the leak, worry about the hygiene! Periods! Yes, let’s say it out loud.’
