Lipika Mitra on Friday accused her husband, former Delhi Law Minister of Aam Admi Party (AAP), Somnath Bharti of domestic violence and lodged a case of domestic violence and attempt to murder against him. Lipika has said that Bharti, who has sought cancellation of his bail in the domestic violence case, would beat and harass her.
The affidavit that was filed by Delhi Police stated, “Somnath Bharti used to harass, beat and abuse the petitioner (wife) from the very beginning of the marriage, despite having knowledge about the frail health conditions of the petitioner. The medical record produced by the petitioner was examined and verified and it shows that she was suffering from diabetes and hypertension at the time of pregnancy.”
Bharti, who was granted bail on October 7, 2015, denied all the allegations leveled against his wife. Lipika, who was unhappy with the bail order, granted by the High Court, said, “It was almost like a verdict and the trial court had relied on the case diary, which allegedly shouldn’t have been done at that stage.”
However, on September 22, 2015, the High Court had rejected Bharti’s plea for anticipatory bail, as the allegations against him were backed by “documentary proof.”
