14-year-old girl burnt to death by two AIADMK functionaries over dispute with her father

A 14-year-old girl, who was burned alive by two AIADMK functionaries on Sunday over an alleged dispute with her father, succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning at Villupuram Government Medical College and Hospital in Tamil Nadu. The police have arrested the two AIADMK functionaries – G Murugan and K Kaliyaperumal.

In a video statement recorded by the magistrate before the death of the girl, who’s the daughter of a petty shop owner named K Jayabal, the victim can be heard naming the accused and describing how she was set on fire by the two men.

While speaking to The Indian Express, Villupuram SP S Jayakumar, said, “In 2013, there was a quarrel and an attack in which victim’s father K Jayabal’s brother Kumar’s hand was chopped off by the same accused. All of them went to prison and came out on bail. The case was still pending for trial.” SP Jayakumar also said that the two men are claiming innocence and have said that they have nothing to do with the incident.

The victim’s family has said that she was looking after the shop, which is in front of their house, when the men poured fuel on her and set her on fire.
