18 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel were martyred on Thursday in a terror attack at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. While 40 jawans are reported to be injured in the attack, 13 of them are said to be in critical condition. Terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility of the attack.
The CRPF convoy was attacked by the terrorists by ramming a car laden with explosives into a bus carrying the jawans. There were 70 vehicles carrying 2500 personnel in the convoy. One of the vehicles in the convoy came under attack. The convoy was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar. ANI quoted Director General (CRPF) Vijay Kumar as saying, “Senior officers are at the spot, and an investigation is underway. The injured are being taken care of.”
Former J and K CM and President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti condemned the attack as she wrote on Twitter, “Disturbing news coming in from #awantipura . Twelve of our security personnel have been martyred and several have been injured. No words are enough to condemn the gruesome terror attack. How many more lives will be snuffed out before this madness ends?”
Former CM Omar Abdullah wrote, “Terrible news coming from the valley. A number of CRPF soldiers are reported to have been killed & injured in an IED blast. I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. My prayers for the injured & condolences to the families of the bereaved. #Kashmir.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too condemned the attack as he wrote, “Attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama is despicable. I strongly condemn this dastardly attack. The sacrifices of our brave security personnel shall not go in vain. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs. May the injured recover quickly.”
Several top politicians and celebrities have also posted their condolences on social media calling the terror attack cowardly and unacceptable.
