In what can be called as absolutely amazing, 180 migrant labourers hailing from Jharkhand flew from Mumbai to Ranchi on Thursday on an Air Asia flight, which was crowd-funded as part of an initiative by law graduates from National Law College in Bengaluru. The graduates reportedly gathered Rs 11 lakh via crowd-funding to help these stranded migrant labourers reach home.
The law graduates approached Maharashtra Government and Jharkhand Government to execute their plan of flying the migrant labourers home. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren praised the graduates as he wrote on Twitter: “In the time of such crisis, the alumni of NLS have voluntarily extended their support to our migrant workers. I thank them for their humane gesture, and I hope that their actions will encourage many more individuals and groups to help people in need.”
