In a first of its kind, three members of Nagpur University Board of Studies (BOS) consumed 99 teas, 25 coffees and some snacks worth Rs 1.5 lakh during one single meeting that stretched for just two-three hours in one day. The incident came to light after university Vice Chancellor SP Kane, who was shocked to see the bill, refused to clear the same suspecting a huge scam.
However, the VC has ordered an enquiry on the same. Nagpur University had offered complimentary tea and snacks during the meetings to the members, for which the members submitted a bill of Rs 1.5 lakh.
When Nation Next spoke to Kane, he said, “That’s absolutely not possible! How can three people consume so many teas and coffees in just two-three hours?”
Kane further said, “This isn’t actually the fault of the board members. The finance department had given Pradeep Masram, the Deputy Registrar who’s also the Assistant Registrar at Nagpur University, an advance of Rs 1.5 lakh for same expenses. The same bill was presented with Meshram’s signatures on it. It was after that the finance section who came across this manipulation.”
