Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Tuesday that by July 31, Delhi is expected to have around 5.5 lakh cases. The prediction is based on the current doubling rate of COVID-19 cases in Delhi. Sisodia’s statement came after a meeting with Lieutenant General Anil Baijal and top central officials.
Based on the prediction, Sisodia said that 80,000 hospital beds will be needed by the government. Sisodia’s statement comes a day after LG Baijal reversed AAP government’s decision to reserve hospital beds for Delhi residents.
Sisodia said, “Now we see that there might be a situation that 80,000 beds would be needed by end of July – that too only for residents of Delhi, not outsiders. So, where will this come from? What is being done about it?”
Sisodia reportedly urged LG Baijal at the meeting to reconsider his decision to reverse Delhi government’s decision to reserve hospital beds. LG Baijal, however, refused to reconsider and the issue was not taken up at the meeting.
