Gyan Dev Ahuja, BJP MLA from Rajasthan, created a stir on Friday when he said that India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru wasn’t a pandit as he ate beef and pork. The MLA from Ramgarh constituency in Alwar district, who’s known for making provocative remarks, further blamed the Nehru-Gandhi family for all social evils prevailing in the country.
Ahuja made the controversial statement reacting to Rajasthan Congress Chief Sachin Pilot’s statement that Rahul Gandhi had learnt to visit temples from his grandmother Indira Gandhi. Ahuja said, “Nehru could not be a pandit as he ate beef and pork. Congress has prefixed pandit before his name.” Ahuja said that if he was proven wrong he would resign and if he’s proved right, Pilot should resign from his post.
Ahuja also accused the Congress of indulging to politics of caste and demanded the demolition of all statues of members of Nehru-Gandhi family and the monuments named after them in the country.
