Diwali celebrations turned sour for Nagpurians, after a 20-year-old boy brutally thrashed a 43-year-old businessman Brajesh Khemka in full public view at CP Club’s Diwali party last night. Besides punching and kicking Khemka in his face, the boy, who has been identified as Jasspreet Singh Tuli, smashed four liquor bottles on Khemka’s head. While Tuli fled the spot immediately after the incident took place, Kemka, who bled profusely, was rushed to Sengupta Hospital for medical aid.
Though Khemka got 30 stiches on his head and face, he is now out of danger. Police personnel at Sadar Police Station told Nation Next that an offence has been registered against Jasspreet Singh Tuli and his accomplice, under sections 323, 324 and 506. Our source in the police station told us that they could press more charges against the accused, if something else is found during the investigation. “For now, we have booked them for causing grievance hurt and criminal intimidation, but some more serious charges can be pressed against them,” said our source.
An eyewitness told Nation Next that such was the intensity of the attack on Khemka that some onlookers felt so traumatised, that they started crying. He said, “This guy was beating up Mr Khemka so badly that even the bouncers got scared. The guards and bouncers didn’t even try to intervene.”
Brajesh Khemka’s wife Meghna told us that they had settled down at the food court in the club, when her husband Brajesh and his friend Sumit Thakkar went to the washroom.
She said, “After a few minutes, my daughter came running to me, saying that ‘some people are beating up Papa badly.’ I rushed towards the spot and saw this boy fleeing. He was shouting and bashing up whosoever was coming his way. I followed him, but he ran away with his friends’ help. I later got to know that two groups of boys were fighting in the club’s washroom, and when my husband and his friend intervened, one boy (Jasspreet) started punching them. Maybe, they were dead drunk! We are so horrified because of this incident. My husband is out of danger, but we are still waiting for his CT scan reports.
