Five times Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova announced her retirement on Wednesday. Sharapova is one of the most successful and popular Tennis players in the country. The 32-year-old Russian rose to fame after she won Wimbledon at the age of 17 in 2004 beating heavy weight Serena Williams.
Sharapova said she was “saying goodbye” to tennis. She further said, “In giving my life to tennis, tennis gave me a life.”
