In an extremely unfortunate incident, two auto rickshaw drivers brutally assaulted a Nagpur Traffic cop after the cop along with his colleague put jammers on two auto rickshaws (owned by the two men) parked in no parking zone in front of Hotel Rahul Deluxe near Ganeshpeth Bus Stand in Nagpur. The incident, which took place in the afternoon, left the traffic cop Prakash Punjaji Sonone injured. The auto drivers, who have now been taken under custody, have been identified as Sonu Baburao Kamble (31), a resident of Beltarodi and Mayur Kishor Rajurkar (21), a resident of Rambag.

Speaking to Nation Next about the unfortunate incident, Raj Tilak Roushan (DCP Traffic) said, “Two of our men were putting on jammers on vehicles parked in the no parking zone near the bus stand. When our men put jammers on two auto rickshaws, the auto rickshaw drivers started a brawl with the cops. One of the policemen immediately informed the control room about the incident.  Meanwhile, the auto rickshaw drivers turned violent and started attacking one of our men, who was injured in the incident.”

After the more the police team arrived at the place of the incident, the men were taken into custody and an FIR was registered against them at Ganeshpeth Police Station. Both Kamble and Rajurkar have been booked under sections 307, 353, 333, 294, 506 (b) and 34 of the IPC.

Informing about the action the police plans to take against the increasing menace of auto rickshaw drivers in the city, DCP Roushan said, “We have been taking regular action against auto rickshaw drivers for non compliance of traffic rules. The incident, which happened today, is certainly not a good trend. We are going to continue taking strict actions against auto drivers who break traffic rules. Anybody violating the traffic rules will not be spared at all.”
