Stopped for riding without helmet, biker runs over traffic cop in Nagpur

A traffic cop was seriously injured when a young boy, trying to evade police action for riding his bike without a helmet, ran over the cop on Tuesday morning in Nandanvan, Nagpur.

On the day of the incident, PSI Vijay Madhukar Gite and Constable Chandrakant Laxman Pachore were engaged in a drive to nab and fine helmetless bikers. During the drive, two youngsters rode towards the traffic cops on a Bullet (MH40/BM/7701). While Mohd Ubair (20), a resident of Islampura, was riding the bike sans the helmet, Nihal Ansari (22), a resident of Islampura as well, was riding pillion. On being stopped by the cops for riding without the helmet, Ubair, rode the bike towards the cops injuring Gite seriously. Soon, other traffic cops gathered and were able to nab both the youngsters.

Meanwhile, Gite was rushed to Orange City Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Nandanvan Police has booked both Ubair and Ansari under sections 307, 338, 353, 279 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 129, 177, 179 and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
