Bofors not a scam, it was a figment of imagination: P Chidambaram

Former Finance Minister and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram said that Bofors (controversy) was a figment of imagination by former prime minister late VP Singh.

Former Finance Minister and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram on Saturday, while addressing a press conference in Nagpur, said that Bofors was a figment of imagination of former prime minister late VP Singh. He further said that Bofors (controversy) wasn’t a scam. The former home minister said in response to a question by a journalist, who asked Chidambaram whether the Rafale deal controversy was on the lines of Bofors scam.

Chidambaram further said, “The Bofors was not a scam. There’s a judgment by the Delhi High Court with Justice JD Kapoor, which conclusively finds no corruption or scam in the Bofors deal. Please don’t compare Rafale deal controversy with Bofors. I want you to keep Bofors out of this. VP Singh used to carry in his pocket a Swiss bank account number for so many years and it never came out! He was the PM for 11 months. Why didn’t he disclose the account details?”
