Dark Room Poets, a group spearheaded by city youngster Hussain Rasheed, recently hosted a unique event – Poetry in the Park – at Shankar Nagar Garden, Nagpur. At the event, around 40 poetry lovers and budding poets gathered under a huge Banyan tree at the park to share their love for poems. The tree, which was beautifully decorated with lights, ribbons, hanging cages and origami swans, mixed with the freshness of the morning and poetry recitations by youngsters made ‘Poetry in the Park’ an enchanting experience.

The event, which was hosted by Kuldeep Shiwankar and Nandini Trivedi, started on a mesmerizing note as Hussain recited a Sonnet accompanied by music being played along by his friend on his guitar. Kick starting the poetry session, the organisers later divided the participants in two groups for their first activity. Under this activity, poets and the listeners were asked to introduce themselves to be able to know each other. Other activities included division of several groups for on-spot performances of Shayaris and English poetry, where the performers were given two lines of a shayari by a famous poet and then they were told to complete rest of the shayari with their own words and creativity.

This was followed by a one of a kind session – Ghazal Jam, wherein Rafique Ahmed won hearts with his soulful voice as he sung ghazals like ‘Hothon se chu lo tum’ and ‘Hoshwalo ko khabar kya.’ To make ‘Poetry in the Park’ a memorable experience for everybody present, all the participants were given souvenirs at the end of the session.

Expressing happiness over the successful execution of ‘Poetry in the Park,’ Hussain Rasheed said, “Among all artistic things in the society, poetry is one of the best ones. The purpose of this session in the park was to unite the lovers of poetry and create something unique. Also, the intention was to bring to the fore the hidden talent of poetry among our participants for today. ‘Poetry in the Park’ is dedicated to all the poetry lovers of the city.”
