Nagpur’s Smruti Cinema, which was shut down in August 2018, was relaunched as Buty Cineplex on March 19, 2019, with a special screening of the patriotic movie Uri: The Surgical Strike.

In the morning, Buty Cineplex owner Vikram Buty along with his son Rohit Buty and his entire family, performed pooja. Thereafter, more than 150 underprivileged from a city school enjoyed the special screening of Uri: The Surgical Strike during the 12 pm show. During the evening show of 6pm, friends and family of Buty family joined in to congratulate them on their new venture and enjoy the screening of the movie.

Smruti Cinema situated at Residency Road in Sadar, was operational for more than 30 years. The popular theatre was closed down in August 2018 after Vikram Buty took back the possession of the one acre land (comprising the theatre and the premises).

Speaking to Nation Next, Rohit Buty had earlier said that Buty Cineplex would not be run just as a typical theatre but a lot of cultural activities will be planned at the cineplex.
