Selfies have been banned at the red carpet of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival by the organisers of the festival. The news was shared by the festival’s artistic director Thierry Fremaux in an interview, in which he called the act of taking selfies at the red carpet ‘ridiculous, trivial and an unwanted disorder.’

Fremaux, during the interview, said that even though the organisers have not thought as to how to carry out the new rule in practical terms, they will trust the attendees and their understanding of the situation. Fremaux said that it was his job to preserve the prestige of the festival as he said, “It tarnishes the quality and tempo of the ascending the steps. Some are protesting and commenting negatively but selfies didn’t exist 10 years ago. It’s obviously not the most important thing in the world. We go to Cannes to see movies, not to take selfies.”
