New Era Hospital & Research Institute performed the first Transcatheter (without surgery) Mitral valve replacement with Made-In-India Meril valve in central India.

In first of its kind in Central India and third in state, city’s premier institute New Era Hospital & Research Institute preformed first without surgery mitral valve replacement. The institute has used angiography method rather than open-heart surgery to perform the replacement of valve, which itself is a rare procedure.

Seventy-year-old Moreshwar Bhave had already undergone an open-heart surgery for mitral valve replacement eight years back. But since few months, he started facing the same complaints as before. Therefore, he visited New Era Hospital & Research Institute and consulted senior cardiologist Nidheesh Mishra. A diagnostic procedure – Echocardiography was done, which showed failing of mitral valve that was replaced eight years back. But looking down to the severity of the condition and risk of operation for the second time and risk of the patient, Mishra decided to replace it via angiography (replacing through patient groin).
