New Era Hospital & Research Institute performed the first Transcatheter (without surgery) Mitral valve replacement with Made-In-India Meril valve in central India.
In first of its kind in Central India and third in state, city’s premier institute New Era Hospital & Research Institute preformed first without surgery mitral valve replacement. The institute has used angiography method rather than open-heart surgery to perform the replacement of valve, which itself is a rare procedure.
Seventy-year-old Moreshwar Bhave had already undergone an open-heart surgery for mitral valve replacement eight years back. But since few months, he started facing the same complaints as before. Therefore, he visited New Era Hospital & Research Institute and consulted senior cardiologist Nidheesh Mishra. A diagnostic procedure – Echocardiography was done, which showed failing of mitral valve that was replaced eight years back. But looking down to the severity of the condition and risk of operation for the second time and risk of the patient, Mishra decided to replace it via angiography (replacing through patient groin).
As soon as the patient and his relatives gave consent, the team started working on it and successfully performed the valve replacement without surgery. A favorable and remarkable outcome was achieved. Now the patient is comfortable and his blood circulation is just like any normal individual.
The procedure was done successfully via transfermoral -trans septal route mitral valve in valve replacement under general anesthesia. The team of doctors said, “The result was excellent as there was no leakage immediately after the procedure. Post op patient is doing well and being discharged today in good health.”
The team of doctors that performed the procedure in the hospital include Dr Nidheesh Mishra – Director, Senior Cardiologist, Dr Anand Sancheti – Director, CVTS Surgeon, Dr Nilesh Agrawal – Director, Senior Neuro and Spine Surgeon – Dr Mahendra Maske Cardiologist, Dr Sahil Bansal –MD (Cardiac Anesthetist) and Dr Sumbul Siddique – Mch (CVTS Surgeon).
