Chennai man posing as sanitary worker steals Rs 8.2 lakh from ATM…

A man disguised as a sanitary worker stole Rs 8.2 lakh from an ATM in Chennai on Sunday.  The man, who came with a bag and a sprayer in an auto rickshaw, told the security guard at MMDA East Main Street that he was directed by the municipal corporation to spray disinfectant inside the ATM.

The man went inside the ATM as the guard stepped out and stood watching him at a distance. In the meanwhile, a customer entered the ATM kiosk; upon seeing the man withdrawing money, the customer mistook him to be an employee of the bank. Hence the customer waited outside the ATM. Within 10 minutes, the thief came out and ran towards the auto rickshaw with a bag full of cash. The customer and the security guard tried to stop the thief but all their efforts went in vain.
