The All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Association has filed a complaint with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma over alleged remarks made against Gorkha community in the web series Paatal Lok, which has been produced by Anushka.

The association has alleged that a ‘sexist slur’ has been used against the community in the web series, starring Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead role.

Earlier this week, the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh (youth wing of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh), had also started an online campaign against the web series, demanding to mute a particular scene and to re-upload the same with sub-titles and containing a disclaimer.

In this online petition, the group complained that the series had used objectionable remarks against a woman character, who name suggests that she belongs to the Khasi community of Meghalaya. The group alleged that the clip, which is in the second episode of ‘Paatal Lok’ normalises racism against the community.

President of the Bhartiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh, Nanda Kirati Dewan said that such stereotyping not only maligns the community as a whole but normalizes racism as a standard practice for people. It sets a distorted image among people regarding a certain community, the brunt of which, people living there have to face. The community has also threatened legal action against Anushka.
