After senior leader Nana Patole was declared as the Lok Sabha candidate from Nagpur against Union Minister Nitin Gadkari by the Congress, Patole got a grand welcome by senior Congress leaders and supporters.

Supporters welcomed Patole with flowers and slogans at the Nagpur Railway Station today morning after he arrived from Delhi.

As Congress debacle in Nagpur in both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in 2014 was being attributed to massive in fights between two factions of the city party unit, senior Congress leadership was looking for such a candidate in Nagpur who would be acceptable to both the factions in the party. In Patole, party has apparently found the right choice.

Patole has replaced former Union Minister and seven-term MP (six terms from Nagpur) Vilas Muttemwar as the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Nagpur. Also, Gadkari contested his first Lok Sabha elections in 2014 when he defeated senior Congress leader and Muttemwar in Nagpur by a margin of 2.85 lakh votes.

Former BJP MP from Bhandara-Gondia constituency (Maharashtra) Nana Patole joined Congress in 2018. Patole quit the BJP in December 2017 after accusing PM Narendra Modi of turning a blind eye towards farmers’ apathy in Vidarbha.
