Amid the coronavirus outbreak across the country, Indian government has announced a massive food security scheme for 80 crore people across the country.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak across the country, Indian government has announced a massive food security scheme for 80 crore people across the country. As per the scheme each one of the 80 crore people will get 7 kg ration per month for three months.

As part of the scheme, wheat will be given at Rs 2/kg instead of Rs 27/kg and rice will be given at Rs 3/kg instead of Rs 37/kg. The decision was announced by Union Minister Prakash Javdekar during a press conference on Wednesday.

Javdekar’s announcement comes a day after PM Narendra Modi announced a countrywide lockdown on Tuesday, forcing people to stay at their homes for the next 21 days to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
