A COVID-19 positive man, hailing from Chamba town in Himachal Pradesh, has been charged by the police with attempt to murder after he allegedly partied with his friends following his return from another district earlier this month. Two of the man’s friends and his two-year-old daughter have tested positive after the party.

Director General of Police, SR Mardi, said that before the man tested positive for COVID-19, he had thrown a liquor party to his friends outside his house. The men also shared a cigarette, which according to Mardi was a suicidal act.

The DGP had earlier said in a video message, “In case, any person gets infected (because of a irresponsible behaviour of a COVID-19 patient) and dies of COVID-19, a case of murder would be registered against the accused patient.” After the message, around 52 people in the state have disclosed their recent foreign or inter-state travel history to the Himachal Police.
