COVID-19 positive man’s dead body found lying at Ahmedabad bus stand

In a shocking incident, a 67-year-old COVID-19 positive man’s dead body was found at BRTS bus stand in Ahmedabad’s Danilimda on May 16 (Saturday) night. The deceased identified as Gunwant Makwana had been undergoing treatment at Ahmedabad’s Civil hospital and was discharged recently. However, Makwana’s family has no knowledge of his discharge.

Police officials discovered the body lying at the bus stand and transported it to VS hospital in the city. Police recovered a letter and a mobile phone from the man’s pockets, which helped them to reach Makwana’s family members. Makwana was a resident of Rohit Park Society in Danilimda area of Ahmedabad.

Earlier, Makwana had experienced trouble in breathing and was rushed to the hospital, where he tested positive for Coronavirus. Makwana’s family told the police officials that they had no clue about the incident and the news about his demise came as a shock to them.

Authorities at Civil hospital had informed the family members them that they will be notified when Makwana would recover from the infection. “We were told over a phone call that he had tested positive for coronavirus by the hospital staffers,” they added.

The corporation had put a board announcing ‘Home quarantine’ outside his residence and had asked all family members to go into 14-day quarantine. The house was also disinfected. The family is now inquiring as to know how Makwana ended at the bus stand and how was he let out of the hospital despite testing positive.

Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat, has ordered IAS (Retd), JP Gupta to investigate the matter.
