A 50-year-old CRPF cop (Central Reserve Police Force) was killed by a running goods train on Sunday evening while crossing an unmanned railway crossing near Rajiv Nagar in Nagpur’s Kalamna area.

The cop, who’s been identified as Maya Dhiman, was riding pillion with her husband Lekhram Motiram Dhiman (65), a resident of CRPF colony at Hingna road. The unfortunate incident took place at 9.45 pm at Rajiv Nagar railway crossing while the couple was returning from Kamptee to Hingna.

As per the police, as the train’s headlights were not working and it was dark, Lekhram failed to notice the approaching train, which later knocked down his moped. While Lekhram fell away from the train on the impact, his wife Maya got trapped under it. A shocked Lekhram, after regaining his composure, tried calling out his wife loudly to find her and to draw the attention of the locomotive engine’s driver.
