The Anti-Extortion cell (AEC) of Thane Police, on Friday, arrested Tariq Parveen (51), an aide of the fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, for his role in a 20-year-old murder case. Pradeep Sharma (AEC Chief), who led the operation on the basis of a tip-off, informed that Parveen was arrested from Ashoka Shopping Centre in South Mumbai.
Parveen is one of the accused in the double murder case of cable operator Mohamad Ibrahim Bangdiwala and his partner Parvez Ansari, both of whom were shot dead by a gang of seven in 1998 in Mumbra, Thane District. Bangdiwala and Ansari were murdered due to rivalry over the cable business.
The police are now investigating whether Parveen was also involved in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, in which Dawood is one of the prime accused.
