Nagpur: Despite the city witnessing a sudden spate in diseases during the on-going monsoon, NMC’s tall claims of keeping the city clean have only disappointed the locals. One of the plushest areas of the city – Shivaji Nagar – is a misnomer today. The residents were in for a rude shock after the area’s park (Shivaji Nagar Park) was converted into a dump yard. Hopeless over NMC’s inaction, residents question NMC over basic facilities that should have been provided. Right from asking about dustbins to maintaining the cleanliness of the area, residents are fretting over the civic body’s negligence and callousness.
Expressing his displeasure over the same, Nitesh Ramani, builder from Shivaji Nagar, tells Nation Next, “The condition of the park as well as the area surrounding it has only been deteriorating since past few years. It has become a hotspot for animals to frequent the place and eat the garbage. As a result, they end up eating plastic; so, it’s hazardous in many ways. High time NMC takes it up. Aesthetically as well, it’s such an unpleasant sight to watch.”
Kanika Acharya, a lawyer by profession and a resident of the same area, is of the opinion that NMC should take up the issue on priority. Kanika said, “Shivaji Nagar is one of the prime areas of the city. We have to keep the cleanliness intact; come what may. Something as basic as a dustbin is missing! I’ve personally asked the NMC sweepers multiple times to clean up the mess in the area but each time my efforts have gone futile. Moreover, there are cows sitting on roads. Anybody can end up harm them while driving. NMC has to act responsibily.”
Speaking on the same issue by posting the pictures of a dirty area outside the park at Shivaji Nagar, Anand Dhoka on his twitter account wrote, “Hey @ngpnmc, Check this scene out at the Shivaji Nagar park corner. Where are the dust bins?”
