Around 23 deaths have been recorded so far due to the communal riots that have been taking place in areas of Northeast Delhi as per authorities at Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.

Speaking about Delhi’s worst communal riots ever, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that ‘external elements’ are to blamed for the riots and not the locals. Kejriwal during assembly said, “People of Delhi don’t want violence; the ‘Aam Aadmi’ has not done all this. Some anti-social, political and external elements have done this.” He further added, “Hindus and Muslims in Delhi never want to fight.”

Meanwhile, NSA (National Security Advisor) Ajit Doval while interacting with the residents of Northeast Delhi said to a woman resident, “Prem ki bhavana bana kar rakhiye. Ye hamara desh hai, hum sabko milkar rehna hai (This is our country. We should co-exist with love).”

To pacify the current situation, High Court on Wednesday directed Delhi Police to take ‘conscious decisions’ vis-à-vis registering FIRs against the three BJP leaders – Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur, Parvesh Verma – for their recent hate speeches. The court is also hearing a plea on the deployment of army, filing of FIRs and other violence issues flaring up in the area. Police Commissioner, who has been appointed to look into the matter, has been ordered by the High Court to file his response on the same by 3 pm on Thursday.
