Padukone in the controversial movie Padmaavat, released in 2018, had reportedly charged around 12 crore, charging more than her male co-stars in the movie. Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, who played Padukone’s male co-stars in the movie, had reportedly charged 10 crore each.

Asian Age had quoted a source as saying, “83 is about the Indian cricket team led by Kapil Dev winning the 1983 World Cup in England and Wales. How much of a role Deepika can have as Kapil Dev’s wife in a plot that is not devoted to Kapil’s off-field life?”

It has been said that it was Ranveer, who was instrumental in convincing Padukone to be a part of the cricketer’s biopic. The same source revealed, “I think Ranveer almost convinced her, then the zeros on the cheque did the rest.”

Deepika was the only woman in the top 10 of Forbes’ annual list of the top 100 Indian celebrities. It was said that she earned Rs 112 crore in 2018, including brand endorsements, appearances, and film roles.

Apart from Singh, 83 stars Pankaj Tripathi, Saaqib Saleem, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Ammy Virk, Harrdy Sandhu, Jiiva and Chirag Patil. The biopic is slated for a release in 2020 in the month of April.
