DGGI detects Rs 300 crore GST evasion within 6 months in Nagpur zone; recovers Rs 250 crore

    The Directorate General of GST intelligence (DGGI) Nagpur Zonal Unit said that it detected Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion to the tune of Rs 300 crore, out of which Rs 250 crore was recovered within six months. Nagpur zone includes Vidarbha, Marathwada and Nasik regions of Maharashtra.

    The DGGI intelligence unit became operational since December 2018. The raids by the unit were conducted till May end of 2019. Areas, in which tax evasion was detected included jewellery, real estate, food industry and restaurants.

    It was reported that a GST evasion of about Rs 2.5 crore was unearthed after a major jeweller in Nagpur zone was raided. Offences were also registered against real estate developers for not possessing occupancy certificates and evading taxes.
