In what can be called as a blatant violation of social distancing norms, hundreds gathered in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district on May 12 to welcome Jain monk Pramansagar.
The monk had reached Banda in Sagar district along with 20 of his followers. Visuals shared by from several news agencies show hundreds of men and women gather around the monk and his followers.
Praveen Bhuria, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sagar, said that directions have been given to investigate and take action against the organisers. He added that both social distancing norms and orders banning large gatherings, under Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) section 144, were violated.
Madhya Pradesh is one of the worst hit states in the country die to COVID-19 with total cases being nearly 4,000.
