Renowned author Dr Devdutt Pattanaik was in Nagpur on July 28 to speak at a SGR Knowledge Series session – Leadership – The Indian Way – organized by SGR Knowledge Foundation (by Raisoni Group) at Chitnavis Centre.
During the highly informative session, Dr Pattanaik, who’s well-known for his interpretations of ancient Indian scriptures, compared the basics of mythology to a person’s day to day life.
Explaining as to how people, in spite of having everything in life get insecure and then get stressed, Dr Pattanaik shared a mythological example. Pattanaik explained that Lord Indra, who, as per mythology, rules heaven and is considered to be the king of all Gods has everything but still his rule has never been stable because of his insecurities and his fear of losing all his wealth. Pattanaik said that this is the biggest reason why people do not follow Lord Indra.
Dr Pattanaik called Lord Vishnu as an ideal leader. He informed that Vaikuntha, the place where Lord Vishnu resides, has been created by Lord Vishnu in a way that common people feel secure. Lord Vishnu understands the desires, problems and sufferings of the common people and that is why he has always been considered as a role model by leaders.
Dr Pattanaik also explained the difference between leadership in India and other countries by citing examples from the Bible and the Mahabharata.
