Drug smuggler lodged at Nagpur Central Jail attempts suicide

A 48-year-old drug smuggler named Firoz Khan aka Abu Aziz Khan lodged in Nagpur Central Jail tried to hang himself with the help of a bed sheet on Monday. Fortunately, the Khan did not succeed and is reported to be stable now.

As per a police communiqué, at around 1:30 pm on Monday, when Sharad Neelkanth Jadhav (51), an employee at central jail, was working in Room no. 4 of the security department of the jail, he heard a loud noise of a mug falling on the ground.

When Jadhav rushed towards the inmate’s room, he saw that Abu had torn a bed sheet to make a rope and kill himself. He had tied one end of the bed sheet to his neck and the other end to a mug, which he had thrown on the ceiling fan to help him make a noose.

Based on Jadhav’s complaint, Dhantoli Police have booked Abu Khan under section 309 of the IPC. Abu has been in Nagpur Central Jail from January 16, 2019, after he was convicted under sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act. Abu was said to be the mastermind of a drug racket dealing in ‘Mephedrone’ popularly known as MD.
