In a bizarre incident, three heavily drunk men in their early 20s kidnapped an on-duty Mumbai traffic cop and took him on a ‘joyride’ on Tuesday night.

As per reports, the three men Viraj Shinde (21), Gaurav Panjwani (22) and Raj Singh, who hail from Thane, halted traffic with their antics in Chheda Nagar locality of Chembur in Eastern Mumbai.

When traffic police received this information, traffic police constable Vikas Munde reached the spot. He spotted a dark grey Honda City car parked in the middle of the road thereby blocking traffic movement.

Munde walked towards the car and knocked the window. When one of the youngsters rolled down the window, Munde noted that the young boys were drunk and there were some empty bottles in the car. The car also smelt of liquor.

The traffic cop immediately ordered the driver to park the vehicle on the side of the road. Not paying heed to the cops, the other two youngsters stepped out of the car and started arguing with the cop. The youngsters even allegedly beat the cop. The cop was then pushed inside the vehicle and the youngsters took him with them.

As Munde’s colleagues shared the news of the incident through his walkie-talkie to the control room, the Vikroli Traffic Police swung in action. The police were able to trace the youngsters’ vehicle nearly three kms away from the Eastern Express Highway in Ghatkopar. While Viraj Shinde and Gaurav Panjwani were taken in custody, cops are on a lookout for Raj Singh.

All the three youngsters are residents of Ghodbunder Road in Thane and belong to affluent families. The car used in the incident was reportedly recently gifted to one of them by his father.
