The seriousness of water shortage in India can be gauged from a recent incident in Amaravati city of Andhra Pradesh where a woman was killed during a scuffle for drinking water at a public tap.

The woman Tatipudi Padma (38), was allegedly attacked after she objected to other woman breaking the queue for water and attempting to move up in front of her. In the ensuing altercation, the woman was allegedly attacked with steel pots by some women following which Padma sustained head injuries and died on the spot. Police have detained a woman named Sundaramma and are investigating further.

Like a lot of districts across the country, parts of Andhra Pradesh too are facing acute drinking water shortage due to delayed monsoon.
