Bharat Thakur, an activist from Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), on Sunday, lodged an FIR against Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s brother Ayazuddin Siddiqui at Budhana Police Station in Muzaffarnagar, for ‘hurting religious sentiments.’ Ayazuddin, apparently, had posted something on Facebook, which irked Thakur.

Budhana police registered a case against Ayazuddin and booked him under section 153 A of the IPC. Even thought the FIR was registered, the police is of the opinion that Ayazuddin did not do anything intentionally but made an innocent mistake. Hariram Yadav, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar, was quoted by The Hindu saying, “Frankly, it looks like Ayazuddin had no intention of hurting anyone. He has not written anything offensive. All he did was to write something rejecting the offensive picture and post which was shared on the social networking website.”

Yadav added, “He wrote something to the effect that condemned the offensive post but while writing it he also copy pasted the offensive picture which is the reason behind the HYV’s anger and complaint. It was after the HYV’s complaint that police registered an FIR against him under section 153A.”
