Veteran Congress leader and former President Pranab Mukherjee will be in Nagpur on June 7 at an RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) programme to address the workers of the organization. Mukherjee will be the chief guest at the valedictory session at Sangha Shiksha Varg (third year) – a 25-day training camp for RSS volunteers at RSS headquarters in Reshimbagh, Nagpur.

RSS Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh Arun Kumar told PTI that the former President has given his consent to participate in the valedictory session. The Indian Express quoted RSS leader Rakesh Sinha saying, “Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s acceptance to attend RSS event in Nagpur sends a message to the country that on vital issues there should be dialogue and adversaries are not enemies. Questions raised on RSS-Hindutva is being answered by his acceptance of invitation.”

Pranab Mukherjee, 82, was the President of India from 2012 to 2017. Being a senior Congress leader he worked closely with Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He was also finance minister in the UPA II government headed by former PM Manmohan Singh.

Interestingly, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman too visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur last week and paid her tributes at the Hedgewar Smruti Mandir.
