Friendship Day celebrations turn ugly as three Nagpur boys drown in Salai Mendha Lake

Friendship Day celebrations (August 5) turned into a tragedy for three minor boys as they drowned in the Salai Mendha Lake in Hingna near Nagpur. The three boys have been identified as Sagar Jambhulkar (17), Prathamesh Sidam (17) and Bunty Nirmal (14), all residents of Sevadal Nagar, Bhande Plot, Umred Road, Nagpur.

As per the police, the three teenagers along with their five other teenage friends had gone to the lake for a picnic on Sunday. Jambhulkar, Sidam and Nirmal then entered the lake for a swim. Soon, as the three boys moved towards a little deeper part in the lake, their friends saw then trying relentlessly to get out of the lake.

While a friend tried to help, it all went in vain. The villagers gathered at the spot as the friends raised an alarm. Thereafter, Hingna Police was informed and it reached the spot at around 5 pm. Sidam’s dead body was fished out later from the lake at around 6:30 pm.

As soon as the respective families of the three minor boys heard about the incident, they reached the lake. Hingna Police has registered a case of accidental death and is investigating the case further.
