    ⇒The 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra State, Uddhav Thackeray (59) is the current Chief of Shiv Sena. He is the son of Shiv Sena founder, late Balasaheb and Meena Thackeray.

    ⇒Known to be soft-spoken, Thackeray is the Editor-In-Chief of Saamana, a prominent Marathi newspaper, which was founded by Balasaheb Thackeray.

    ⇒Born on 27 July 1960 in Mumbai, Uddhav Thackeray is a graduate from JJ School of Arts and an author. He is also a professional photographer whose work has appeared in various magazines and has been showcased at numerous exhibitions.

    ⇒Thackeray is set to become the first member of the Thackeray family to occupy the Chief Ministerial post.

    ⇒Thackeray is the first Shiv Sena member in 20 years to become CM of Maharashtra after Manohar Joshi and Narayan Rane.

    ⇒He has never contested an election previously and has never been a member of the state assembly.

    ⇒Thackeray’s son Aaditya created history by becoming the first member of the Thackeray family to contest any election. Aaditya had contested the assembly elections from Worli in Mumbai  in 2019.

    ⇒Uddhav Thackeray was appointed as the working president of Shiv Sena in 2003. The move came as a surprise to many, as his cousin Raj Thackeray was expected to get the post.

    ⇒Gradually, after fallout between the two, Raj left the Shiv Sena in 2006 to form his own party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

    Political career

    ⇒He was handed over the responsibility of managing the party during 2002 Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, in which Shiv Sena performed well. It was the first time that anyone saw Thackeray’s leadership qualities and flair for politics.

    ⇒He then started working with the party more closely, and was declared as the working president of the party in 2003. In 2004, Balasaheb Thackeray announced him as the next party chief.

    Personal Life

    ⇒Thackeray is married to Rashmi Thackeray and has two sons, Aaditya and Tejas. While Aditya is the president of the Yuva Sena and newly elected Member of Legislative Assembly, Tejas is said to be pursuing his studies in the US.

    ⇒Thackeray in 2016 underwent angiography in a follow-up to the angioplasty, which he had had in 2012, when doctors had put in eight stents to remove the constrictions for multiple blockages in three main arteries in his heart.

    ⇒His photo book Maharashtra Desha (2010), that comprises aerial shots, is a glimpse into the cultural fabric, physical beauty and historical perspective of Maharashtra.

    ⇒Pahava Vitthal (2011) capturing various aspects of rural Maharashtra and the Warkaris during Pandharpur Wari pilgrimage has also been received very well by national and international audiences.

    ⇒He also exhibited a deeper commitment to larger issues when he raised funds for farmer drought relief and wild life conservation through his photography exhibitions.
