A 16-year-old housemaid hailing from Jharkhand was murdered in New Delhi by four men, who had brought her to the capital, after the girl asked for her salary. Manjeet Singh, one of the four men, has been arrested by the police, which is now in search of the other three men.
Manjeet has disclosed to the police officials that, he along with the other three men, had brought the victim – Soni Kumari – to Delhi three years ago. The men found employment for Kumari at a house in East of Kailash. The salary, however, was pocketed by Manjeet always to apparently keep Kumari under his control. After a year passed by, Kumari started demanding the salary so as to return to her home in Jharkhand.
DCP Sagar while speaking to a daily, said, “Manjeet took Kumari to his home in Nangloi and tried to pacify her after she demanded the salary again. When his efforts failed, he, along with accomplices – Shalu (31) and Gauri (36) – strangled the girl on May 3. They then chopped Kumari’s body into pieces, put the pieces in plastic bags and dumped them in a drain nearby. We had to join the head with the torso to identify the girl.” The police also acquired the CCTV footage where some persons can be seen carrying packets near the drain.
After the police found the body, it went to 200 houses in nearby localities with a photo of the girl. When one of the people finally managed to identify the girl, it led the police to Manjeet, who confessed to his crime. Manjeet also confessed that he would lure girls from poor families in Jharkhand promising employment in New Delhi.
