Celebratory firing during wedding leaves groom dead in Uttar Pradesh

In a tragic incident, groom Sunil Verma (25) was accidently shot dead by his friend during celebratory firing in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place when Verma arrived at his bride’s residence.

As per local reports, people around Verma failed to understand what exactly had happened, as they couldn’t hear the gun shot due to loud music. Verma was immediately rushed to nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead by doctors.

The police registered an FIR under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after Verma’s father Radheshyam lodged a complaint. Chandra, who’s the accused, has been on the run ever since the incident and the police informed that a search is being conducted for the same. The Uttar Pradesh government had banned celebratory firing in weddings and other social functions.
