“I’ll write a book on policing after I retire!” said Nagpur Commissioner of Police Dr BK Upadhyay to Nation Next when asked about choosing to write a book (fourth edition) on ‘Mind Management’ over policing today.
Upadhyay said, “Mind is the most important aspect in humans. Be it crime or a good deed, it all originates from the mind. If the thought is good, then the action is also good and vice-versa. We have several techniques in Indian culture to control our mind, be it vipassana, meditation, yoga, etc., which should be practiced. The mind is a good servant but a bad master.”
Speaking about the book, Upadhyay said, “My main aim through this book is to bring down crimes by telling people how we can control our mind and act good. We treat criminals at a superficial level; we send them to jail for committing crimes. We aren’t reforming their mind. We should primarily focus on changing their minds.”
When Nation Next asked the top cop of how he has been managing writing books despite such a hectic schedule, he said, “I’m a different kind of a person; I’m an introvert, I meditate, I’m a teetotaller. I don’t go to clubs and party. I prefer reading. So, I get good amount of time compared to others!”
Upadhyay has penned three books — Mind Management, The Great Mind Managers of the World and Mahabhashya Aur Dhwani Vichar, which are all available online. Mind Management has also been translated in Marathi titled – Jinkuya Manala.’
